The world is heavily inundated with mediocrity; its 'luxurious' celebration (misrepresentation) as the new king of cool and blueprint to 'quick fame'. This is sad... but not news! In juxtaposition, I am glad there are still many 'few good men'...and more than 5 actually out there (e.g Russell Simmons, Brenden Dilley, Peter Georgescu, Barrack Obama, Roger Federer, Babatunde Fashola, e.t.c)
Like Margaret Thatcher, only that I am a little 'worse' (pun intended), I usually make up my mind about a man in ten seconds, and I very rarely change it.
This post celebrates 5 fantastic men whom I have never met in person, but whose works, words, materials, achievements, mentality, humanitarian lifestyle, contributions, dreams, drive, desires, skills sets' and gifts inspired me a great deal in 2013.
1. Actor, Director and Writer, crime committed not to add 'very handsome' Aml Ameen starts my list. Talk about amazing career leap! It is not everyday nor very easy that one lands a Hollywood role in a blockbuster movie with (only) big casts like Oprah Winfrey, Forest Whitaker, Jane Fonda, David Oyelowo and the A-list star studded others.
Aml (pronounced Am-Mel as on his twitter page @AmlAmeen) - an embodiment of hard work, focus, dedication and humility - deserves more celebration, more roles and more opportunities in the coming years. Watching his interview with Vox Africa certainly underscores him as a young man who is well focused, has big dreams and certainly knows where he is going.
2. T Harv Eker - I announce that the free publicity of this man on my blog is the biggest, most invaluable, most precious and most expensive gift I have ever given to anyone. Consider yourself lucky forever. And I am not kidding! Please find him and grab him in any form, be it in his books, seminars, workshops, CD or DVDs. It is certain you will return here to thank me.
3. Michael Collins Ajereh, popularly known as Don Jazzy, is a Nigerian multi-talented and multi-award winning song writer, record producer, artiste and wealthy CEO of Mavin Records. But this is not (only) why I am celebrating him. Once listed on Forbes list as one of the most powerful celebrities in Africa in 2011, super funny thirty one years old Jazzy is the almost only perfect example of 'the humanitarian celebrity'. Should there be a Grammy category for that in future, it should be in his honour and trademarked to his name. (By the way, I just trademarked this suggestion/idea too, locally, nationally and internationally!)
4. Dearest Mr. Lanny Zechar serves as Senior Vice President of Acquisitions & Agency Relationships at Altour International, Inc. New York, I did not even know that when I 'met' him. For whatever reason Mr. Lanny thought of me as South African, as this is how our virtual conversation started out, I consider myself the luckiest individual by that mistaken identity from this writer, speaker, mentor and coach. His selfless advice, genuine suggestions and words to me remain priceless. Mr. Lanny knows how to put you on your toes, better your image representation and help you lock down on your focus.
5. The last on my list is "avant-garde and versatile designer" Emmy Collins. No-Nonsense Emmy, no doubt, is my favourite BlondeDolly© Man of 2013. This is owing to his very unpopular-popular Diary By Emmy, a serio-comic blog (if you like) championing a change-in-mentality campaign of what style/cool/celebrity is or really should be, by exposing thrash and the mediocre individuals damaging the image of the Nigerian entertainment & fashion industries. In my opinion and strongly, I think such people should be encouraged and multiplied. Emmy has loads of foes already, but this is understandable... nobody likes to hear the truth and Emmy dishes it cold. And oh! I actually met Emmy once and informally at the Style Mania Magazine Launch: Investment Issue with Funmi Iyanda, at Radisson Blu, Victoria Island Lagos, Nigeria.
